My BFF has a theory on why so many Jews and Catholics end up in romantic relationships-- both cultures share a love of guilt. Whether it's guilting people or being guilted by them, my parents taught me well. And if you think the guilting stops after you've grown up, you'd be wrong. Why just today, my papa told me how the amount of stress he's under due to my vegetarianism and choosing to work with a midwife rather than an OBGYN for my pregnancy is going to send him to an early grave. And as a good Jewish girl, I let the guilt of the stress I'm causing him eat away at me all day. I mean, since I don't plan on changing either of those decisions, feeling guilty about it is the least I could, right? Love you papa.

I too live with too much Jewish guilt...ha! I was a vegetarian through both my pregnancies and I was fine and s are my boys, so your dad has nothing to worry about, but that wont stop his Jewish father guilt! I think you are adorable and I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI was raised Catholic and I know what you mean about guilt. It never goes away! Also, Megan and I are both vegetarian and have had three (and one in progress) healthy pregnancies between us. Don't let your dad worry too much. And try not to feel guilty. You are doing what is best for you and your little one!
ReplyDeleteLove your jacket and your tights :) Hope the pregnancy is going well for you ;)

Love these colors and your choice of photo location. :)
ReplyDeleteAhh, guilt ... one of the great motivating factors in life .... good to hear, however, that you are sticking to your decisions. :)
LOL, as a fellow Jew, I know ALL about the guilt! :)

Oh, guilt... Don't even mention it... It's one of the things I'm trying to talk myself out of. :) I hope you can talk it through with your Dad, so neither of you will feel bad about the situation! Guilt and regrets - never worth it.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you look lovely again! Pregnancy suits you! :)
Just tell him you are eating plenty of peanut butter, so the baby is getting all the protein it needs ;) I've known some vegetarian women who gave in to some meat cravings while they were pregnant, but other ladies that pulled through while eating vegan the whole time and all of them had healthy babies.
ReplyDeleteI really love your moto-jacket. Such a great color on you! Good luck getting your dad to back off just a little ;)
LOVE this outfit! i hear ya on the jewish guilt thing. im jewish and im always worried my mom is going to make me feel guilty for something. bleh. and i'm a vegetarian too!! make sure you eat soy for protein and spinach or iron supplements. i find that as a vegetarian getting protein is easy, but getting iron is difficult.
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit on you - it's easy but so chic and edgy. Oh parental guilt ... try being an Asian who is terrible at math and science, haha!
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit! I'm all too familiar with the guilt thing, having grown up Catholic and all. I don't claim to be an expert, but since my husband is Indian, I have at least some basis for saying it runs in his culture as well ;)
ReplyDeleteJust wait till you're a mamma, you'll be doing it to your kid too. Trust me!
ReplyDeleteMy mom does it to me and I do it to my own kids (can't help it).
Luckily my dad never nags or puts me on a guilt trip, which makes me take his rare requests much more seriously. Sadly, I didn't take after him.
good luck with that midwife business!

By the way Inna I had some issues with commenting on disqus lately my comments on your previous posts were gone I am not sure why. So strange.
ReplyDeleteLook at you all adorable with your pregnancy glow :) You look great!
ReplyDeleteMy parents are already questioning me about my vegetarianism and what I'll do if I get pregnant... it's an awkward, heated topic that I don't like to touch on!
I imagine it's much like being a Jew who is terrible at math and science :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sayaka! I got it on Black Friday...It also came in a few other colors (one of them being cream if I remember correctly)
ReplyDeleteCute jacket!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh the guilt, my Catholic dad knows how to lay it on thick! I love your jacket, I'm not sure that's a strong enough word for how much I like it, and the crochet-like sleeves of your dress. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou are cutest pregnant person...and this dress is darling on you!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand the guilt thing, def have a mom who can lay that on like nothing else. And when you're a naturally perfectionistic person...well, it piles up.

All jokes aside, I think it's great that you assert your wants. It's your kid so you should have all the say about how to birth and take care of him or her (not that there's really a wrong way). This story just reminds me of my Jewish mom.. I wonder how she'd react if I decided on the midwife way :)
ReplyDeleteThe outfit is really adorable - it's cute AND practical for the belly (nothing smooshes the preggy-ness :)
Hey cutie - you've got the pregnant glow and are GORGEOUS! Love this outfit.
