Hiya! I’m Kelsey, from over at Charming Pumpkin. I’m so honored that Inna asked me to post while she’s off exploring Israel. Before I dive into the meat of my post, I just want to offer up a big congratulations to Inna and her hubby. Too bad Anthro doesn’t sell baby clothes! Despite this travesty, I have no doubt that Inna is still going to have the most adorably dressed baby in the world.
Instead of boring you with tales of the Vortex of Weirdness that surrounds me – which includes, but is not limited to, dive bombing crows, rabid squirrels, and accidental kitchen fires – I thought I’d introduce you all to five of my wardrobe essentials.
#1: Dresses, in all their flow-y glory.
Hi, my name is Kelsey, and I’m a dressoholic. I don’t think I’ve ever met a dress I don’t like. Dresses are my crack… well, that and mashed potatoes. And ice cream. And cake. I really like cake. Kittens are pretty awesome, too. And puppies. But I’m getting off topic here.
If you’re unsure about silhouettes, my recommendation is to stick with a nice, classic a-line, or a full-skirted silhouette. I’m not exaggerating when I say that such cuts are flattering on absolutely everyone.
#2: Boots. Lots and lots of boots.
While I can neither confirm or deny it, there’s a rumor going around that I’m also a bootoholic. Is it my fault if I walk into a store, and the boots start calling out my name sadly? “Kelsey… Take us home with you, Kelsey… We need a good home, Kelsey!” I mean, hypothetically, if the rumor were true, you might say that I’m doing my community a service by giving the boots a nice, safe home full of friendly knee socks, fun-loving tights, and charming skirts and dresses. Hypothetically.
#3: Head bands
I love headbands. I think they’re faaaantastic. For many years, I thought they were ridiculous. It wasn’t until my old hairdresser surprised me with a bad fringe that I started wearing them. Once I did, though, there was no going back.
#4: Animal accessories
I didn’t realize until recently just how many different animal accessories I have. From bunny earrings, to elephant brooches, to my adorable sloth and bunny sweater clip (pictured below), I’ve got quite the little collection going. It can be difficult to find adorable animal printed dresses in sizes that accommodate the Rack of Doom and Destruction, so I’m left with accessories to approximate an otherwise unattainable look.
#5: The Brooch Collage
I love brooches. I think they’re pretty much the best things since sliced bread. If one brooch is good, though, 3 or 5 are even better. The first time I wore a brooch collage, it was because I couldn’t decide between three different pins. I pinned them all on quickly, thinking I’d have a look in the mirror and settle on one before I walked out the door. In a moment of astonishing brilliance, though, I completely forgot to look in the mirror, and left the house with all three brooches on. It wasn’t until someone complimented me that I realized what I had done. Instead of admitting that I really was just that ditzy, I did the mature, honest thing: I pretended that I totally meant to wear multiple brooches. Now, I do it deliberately all the time. It’s a wonderful way to spice up an otherwise plain outfit.
Bonus: Cardigans
I don’t think I would know how to exist in a world without cardigans. ‘Nuff said.
And with that, I’ll mosey on back over to Charming Pumpkin. To all of you who read this post in its entirety: thanks for wading through this particularly lengthy guest post, and I hope you enjoyed it! To Inna: we still need to have a dance off to that boy band of yesteryear, BSB (pre-BSBNKOTB… though NKOTB were swell, too).

ReplyDeleteAt first I thought you would leave out cardigans and all I could think was "OH NOOO!" :D I wouldn't want to exist in a world without them.
And I seriously need some broaches!

Oh! I can help you with that! The elephant is an old Avon brooch. It pops up all the time on ebay and Etsy.
ReplyDeleteHi, Nessa! Thank you so much! I love that outfit! It's one of my go-tos. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks! =D
ReplyDeleteThat dress is easily one of my favorites. It's by Emily Hallman, and I often myself tempted to write "Ode to the Floral Print Dress."
ReplyDeleteI could never, NEVER forgot cardigans! I got to the end of the list, and realized that I had. SO, bonus! =D
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! =D You're so kind!
ReplyDeleteI have a happy little brooch box that brings me endless amounts of joy. I selected a box that looks vaguely like a treasure chest, so that I feel like I'm hunting for treasure in the morning. I'm not a morning person -- I need all the help I can get to enjoy morning time. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I got on it on crazy clearance at Nordstrom Rack.
ReplyDeleteOh, yay! =D
