You guys like my new beautiful 100% silk mustard colored top? Me too. Or at least I did. I managed to wear it for promptly one hour before getting a grease stain on it. Which is probably a sign from the universe telling me I should lay off the greasy food. A sign I’m going to ignore, but a sign nonetheless. As much as I love silk tops, they don’t hold a candle to Burma Superstar’s samosa soup.

Skippy Says: Tales Of A Wimpy Redhead (OOTD)

In the week I was in Austin, Fall came to San Francisco. The air was brisk when I took Ryder out for his morning walk, so, being the wussy that I am, I put on cashmere gloves and layered two thick sweaters on top of each other. Because of all the heavy clothes I had on, the scale said I gained three pounds during my little vacation. I know what you're thinking and NO, it couldn't possibly be all those sweet treats I ate in Austin. It was my heavy clothes I tell you. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 

While layering two bulky sweaters on top of each other is warm, it's not exactly stylin'. And since it was really not all that cold out (around 60 degrees and sunny), I told myself I shouldn't be such a wimp and put on some respectable looking clothes. After all, when we lived in Russia, I used to run around butt naked in the snow. More on that later, but for now please don't call Child Protective Services on my mama.

Skippy Says: Deep Thoughts (OOTD)

I decided to change up my usual routine yesterday and spent the day getting some work done in one of my favorite San Francisco cafes, Simple Pleasures. The one not-so-pleasant thing about that cafe is the ridiculously claustrophobically small bathroom. Combine that with my pea-sized bladder and you've got a recipe for a minor panic attack about every hour or so. At least there's stuff graffitied all over the wall that I try to distract myself with so I don't hyperventilate so hard that I end up passing out and falling into the toilet. Today's favorite was someone that wrote "acting tough is the result of fear," with "fear" crossed out and replaced by "beer."

Skippy Says: If You Love A Woman (OOTD)

Ryan and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary a few months back by going to the Treasure Island flea market for part of the day. What? You have your idea of romance, and we have ours. Fine, this is just mine, but I married a pretty nice guy who knows the way to my heart and is willing to indulge me. I haven't been back since, but I scored so many great items (including the earrings and purse in the outfit below) that I really want to go back soon. Oh, and a really nice vendor gave me a free plate! I have no idea what I'm going to do with it since we got a set of beautiful matching china for our wedding, but you know the immigrant in me can't say no to free anything.

I don't take compliments well. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like them. It's just that I just don't know how to graciously accept them. Instead, I end up being one of those really annoying people who argues with you when you try to compliment me. You like my hair? WRONG, it's ugly. That's a yummy dinner I cooked? Eh, no, I've made better. I think the problem is that the compliment means so much to me that I don't know how to adequately express my gratitude. So I choose to be an asshole instead. I'm working on it. Here's step 1.

1. I love pretty much all mammals. A little too much. I want to adopt every puppy and kitten on the planet, and one day I'd love to own a monkey and a tiger. Ryan is interested in politics, so we made an agreement that if he is ever president, I get to own a tiger.

2. Related to #1 above, half of our engagement photo shoot was done in a petting zoo in SF. Best.Idea.Ever. Toot toot. 

3. I was born in Russia and lived in a little village there until we moved to San Francisco when I was 6 years old. It was tiny, and we even used to get milk from our neighbor's cow from across the street. Ryan makes fun of me for being a country bumpkin sometimes :)

4. I went to an all women's college (Wellesley) where I studied Cognitive and Linguistic Sciences. I knew it had nothing to do with the career I wanted to pursue in the future, but I loved Linguistics.

5. I was a total drama geek in high school and dreamed of being an actress. Not on TV or anything, but in theatre. I'm still sad I gave theatre up, and I hope to one day have it back in my life.

6. I couldn't cook anything except toast until junior year in college. Studying abroad in Scotland was expensive, so eating out wasn't an option and I forced myself to learn to cook. Now it's one of my favorite hobbies. 

7. I can't sing. At all. My friends say I sound like a croaking frog. Ouch.

Skippy Says: Up To Date (OOTD)

So now that I've admitted I watch America's Next Top Model, I can go ahead and admit I watch Project Runway too. It's much more redeemable, largely because, let's be honest, Heidi Klum > Tyra Banks. Once I was watching Project Runway with my dad, who I love dearly but who is entirely oblivious to anything American pop-culture, when he suddenly looked at Heidi, looked at me, and goes "well, she's pretty." Um, yes papa, she's very pretty.

For those of you not keeping up with Project Runway this season: First of all, shame on you! Second, the challenge this week is for the designers to create a seventies inspired look but modernize it. Oh, and this week (ok, fine, most weeks) there's lots of juicy drama! DRAMA! I must have had a premonition about this week's challenge because my outfit was a bit 1950's/ Stepford Wives inspired. Not sure how great I did with the modernizing it part, but I still really loved wearing it.

Skippy Says: Sleep-Deprived Musings (OOTD)

Since I got up at 4:15 a.m. to drive my friend to the airport and have absolutely no brain power (or under-eye concealer) left as I write this, we're going to continue from yesterday with the cartoon quotes. Today, Chris from Family Guy sums up how I feel. Upon being woken up to go to church with his very religious grandfather, Chris sleepily exclaims: "I didn't even know there was a 5 a.m. Mass. I didn't even know there was a 5 a.m. What else haven't you told me?!" I'm with you Chris.

It was another beautiful day in San Francisco, so I took my pasty legs out for some much needed sunshine. They're never getting any less pasty, sunshine or not, but it felt nice regardless. Totally worth all those people I scared off. Paired with a light silky blouse, I felt perfectly end-of-summer. Well, minus the tan.
