Skippy Says: It's Morning Time (OOTD)

I am not a morning person. Consider that an extraordinarily generous understatement. When I was in high school, it was not unusual for my papa to have to resort to dumping a cup of cold water on me so that I'd get up in time to make first period. And my mama swears that the only time she's seen me wake up with a smile is when she and my brother waved a freshly peeled clementine under my nose. I may hate mornings, but I love citrus.

Not much has changed these days. Ryan routinely does a "morning-time" song and dance to try to put a smile on my face while I angrily grumble at him to stop. On particularly cranky mornings, I resort to growling and biting. What? I told you to consider it an extraordinarily generous understatement. Unfortunately for me, I've got an 8:00 a.m. doctor's appointment about an hour and a half away tomorrow morning. So if you hear that loud roar come 6:00 a.m., don't be surprised. It's just me welcoming the morning.

Skippy Says: This Is The Remix Edition: Part I (OOTD)

Don't worry, I know what you're thinking, and I got a much cleaner remix edition for you guys than the title of this post implies. It involves pretty Anthropologie blouses and absolutely no urine whatsoever. For those who are disappointed by that, just stay tuned for next week. I kid. I think.

I got many beautiful presents for my birthday, and among them was a lovely yellow Anthropologie blouse from my auntie. I immediately fell in love with the subtle feminine detailing on the blouse, and started dreaming up various outfits I could make with it. Since I couldn't settle on just one, the idea of the remix week was born. Every day this week, I'll feature a different outfit centered around the same blouse. I may be smelly by the end of it, but gosh darn it I'm committed.

Skippy Says: Birthday Success (OOTD)

Thank you guys for all your kind words and warm wishes on my birthday! I'm happy to report that compared to last year, this birthday was absolute perfection. Ryan and I spent the morning hiking with Ryder in beautiful Point Reyes, I had a lovely dinner with family and close friends where my mama made some of my favorite food (Russian potato salad and pickled tomatoes holla), and then I met more friends for drinks and dessert at Candy Bar. Plus, it was the first year in many where all three of my best girlfriends were in San Francisco and by my side. And they gifted me super sexy tango shoes. So, I guess it was perfection even not compared to last year.

Skippy Says: Give Up Already (OOTD)

Am I a bad person for wanting people to start breaking their New year's resolutions already? That's a rhetorical question. It's just that the gym has been so crowded this week, and the girl in front of me in class almost punched me in the face with her dumbbell as we were doing shoulder raises. Plus, the line for the shower after class was so long that I seriously considered skipping it all together. What? You can't smell photos. And other than that, I have no shame.

Skippy Says: Happy New Year! (OOTD)

Happy New Year friends! I had a rather, uh, interesting celebration. I went to a 1920's themed house party which was more of a blast from the past than I had anticipated even given the theme. As in, my boyfriend from when I was like 15 years old happened to be there. And I had to spend more time than I care to admit trying to convince him that I really was over the fact that he dumped me 11 years ago in order to date another girl, and that I was happily married now. No, really, I kid you not. I'll spare you some of the other interactions with my gentlemen callers of the very distant past, but suffice it to say there was a lot of awkward hand-waving from across the room. Despite all that, I got to spend the night with my wonderful husband and closest friends, and I couldn't be more thankful. So many of my friends who are nearest and dearest to my heart gathered from all over the country (NY, Austin, Iowa City) so that we could celebrate together, and getting to give them each a tight squeeze once the New Year rang in made me so excited for what's in store. Here's to the best year yet!

With that wonderful hubby I was telling you about

Skippy Says: And They Call It Puppy Love (OOTD)

For the past few months, my best friend has been trying to convince me that a guy we supposedly hung out with in high school is real. Because apparently for some reason I've totally and completely blocked him from my memory. And despite the, um, distinguishing features she's mentioned (bowl cut, wearing a red jersey every single day, and significant B.O.) I could not, and cannot, for the the life of me remember him. But there's more. Supposedly this figment of her imagination guy was in love with another best friend of mine when we were in high school, and tonight she found a love letter he wrote to her back in the day. I know we're going to sound like horrible people, but reading that letter tonight gave me some of the best laughs I've had in months. You guys, there was a bit of everything teenage angst you could want-- knights (spelled nights) in shining armor saving their damsel in distress, castles with metaphorical walls being broken down, shakespearean quotes, and even biblical references. Apparently he was Adam, and very tempted by the forbidden fruit that she was. For realz.

Skippy Says: New Friends (OOTD)

Last week was a big one for me-- I had my first ever blog friend meet up. Does it make me a dork to admit that was the highlight of my week? Oh well-- you probably knew that already.

When Megan was in town for the holidays, I made good on my threats and kidnapped her to go thrifting with me. Quite honestly, I was sort of surprised she was willing to meet up, especially after I admitted that I bite. Yes, you read that right. I emailed her telling her I was  a bit nervous, and she sweetly replied that she was too, but that I shouldn't worry because she doesn't bite. And then something possessed me to admit to her that I do. You see, I have this problem with being a little too honest sometimes. And sometimes, no, often, I show my affection by little nibbles. In fact, one of my friend's families refers to me as "the biter." And for some unknown reason, I felt the need to share this with her. Thankfully, Megan was a total trooper and was willing to meet up anyway. We had such a wonderful afternoon together, and I can't wait for her to come back so we can do it again.

Yes, I'm a midget
We're being lions. Isn't it obvious?
In case you can't see, that sign says mini skirts rock. True story.

Skippy Says: So A Dyslexic Man Walks Into A Bra...(OOTD)

Ok, so, while it may be kind of kitschy to wear an umbrella printed dress in the rain, sometimes a girl has to give in to her inner kitsch. Amiright? And kitsch tends to be a weakness of mine. Right up there along with stupid puns. I'm sorry, but I love stupid puns. Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was awesome! Eh? Eh? I wonder how many followers I'll lose with that one...
