Skippy Says: My Weakness (OOTD)

Have you guys ever tried Costco pizza? I swear it's amazing. Don't judge. Yes, it thick and greasy and probably way too cheesy for anyone's good, but man I hold a soft spot in my heart for that pizza. Let's not talk about the soft belly it's giving me, ok? Yesterday, Ryan and I decided to spend part of our day off by going to Target. Because, you know, we're wild like that. And there just happened to be a Costco next door, and it just happened to be right around lunch time, and...I sort of blacked out after that. All I know is that there was a lot of delicious pizza eating involved. Since we were already there, we decided to pick up some paper towels as well. On our way out, the guy at the door raised his eyebrow and asked: "you came in all the way here just for that?" And then I had to hang my head in shame and admit that no, we actually came in for the pizza. And then Ryan said I probably shouldn't admit that to people. And there I go again. Ooops.

Skippy Says: Black Friday 2011 (OOTD)

Alright friends, I've held you in suspense long enough. I know you all haven't been able to sleep wondering how my first ever Black Friday shopping experience went. Don't worry, you'll finally be able to rest easy tonight.

So, basically, in a nutshell, it was a.w.e.s.o.m.e. The night before was less awesome-- my tummy hurt from eating too much food. Specifically mashed potatoes. And maybe that extra last piece of pie. I had my alarm set to 5:00 am, but woke up at 11:00, 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, 4:15, and 4:30 before I finally resigned myself and got up. Not a good start to the day. But then, oh then, I arrived at Anthropologie. Because you know their extra 50% off all sale items is what got my butt in gear to finally do Black Friday. And I scored so many awesome things that all the tummy aches and lack of sleep didn't matter anymore. Like this blouse. This amazingly beautiful, 100% silk blouse, for $30. Yeah baby. That's what I'm talkin' about.

p.s.- I have decided not to do a big post with all my Black Friday finds because I think that would be rather overwhelming. Let's just say Ryan had to come to the rescue midway through to help me carry bags. Instead, I'll note at the bottom of my post if something was a Black Friday find and how much it cost. Kapisch?

Skippy Says: Cannonball (OOTD)

When Ryder was a little puppy, he refused to go in the water. No amount of sticks, balls, or even throwing his favorite treats for him to swim after could coax him in. I was convinced I got stuck with the only labrador (fine, labrador mutt if you're going to get all technical) in the world that was terrified of swimming. Out of desperation, I once proposed getting him a doggy life jacket and throwing him in. My dad proposed having me committed to a mental institution. Well played papa, well played.

I remember the first time Ryder finally went in. He was about 6 months old-- there was a group of pups playing in the water, and he wanted in on the action. Bad. I saw the tension in his eyes: I want to play, but I don't want to die. Play, die, play, die. And suddenly death was worth it. In he went, and we haven't been able to pull him out ever since.

This weekend, Ryan and I took him up to Lake Sonoma for a day so he could swim his little doggy heart out. My favorite is when he does cannonballs into the water. What's a cannonball you ask? See for yourself...

Yup, he was so excited he cannonballed in before I even threw the stick. If you couldn't make out what Ryan said on the video, it's "well that's an embarrassing trip back." Touché. Once in a while he could contain his excitement enough to wait cannonballing until I actually threw the stick...

And of course, every time he got out of the water he got as close to one of us as possible to do a little bit of this:

On the way home, I did just a little bit of trespassing to snap a couple shots in a vineyard. Then, I heard a car coming down the private road and ran as fast as my little heels would carry me.

Skippy Says: My Babushka (OOTD)

I was lucky enough to have all four of my grandparents alive until I was almost 20 years old. Unfortunately, three passed away in a very short time span thereafter (all within 1.5 years), but I still have one grandma remaining. She lives in Germany, but I always call her for our weekly chat. And every week without fail, we have the same conversation. Since she's pretty old school, she asks if I'm doing my job of cooking and cleaning the house well. I lie, and she proceeds to praise me. She tells me about all her friends she showed my wedding photos too, asking them if I'm not the prettiest bride there ever lived? They lie, and she proceeds to praise them. The conversation ends with her asking me if Ryan is still tall. Ryan's almost 6''2 and at the ripe old age of 26 nowhere near shrinking age yet, but I think my grandma is terrified I'll have short children. Being barely 5'1 myself (in the morning on a good day when I stand up really straight), I'm not offended at all. Really.

My grandma is the kindest person you'll ever meet. Whether it's for people or animals, the amount of love she has in that little body of hers never ceases to amaze me. When she flew out for my wedding last year, she spent hours massaging my dog with her arthritic hands every day. I bet she would have loved this dog that randomly wandered into our photo shoot.

Skippy Says: No Good At Being Bad (OOTD)

I'm that girl that used to ask for a hall pass during math class so I could leave and go cry in the bathroom if I did not understand something the teacher was explaining. Truth is, I don't do too well with being bad at things. And I'm bad at math. Well, 95% of the time anyway. The other 5% something clicks, everything suddenly makes perfect sense, and I'm convinced I want to "be a calculist when I grow up." And for those of you who don't know what a "calculist" is, it's a person that does calculus stuff. DUH.

When I was in law school, I studied pretty much every second I wasn't sleeping. What? I didn't want to be bad at it. It made for a fabulous first year of marriage, just aks Ryan. After turning in a particularly long and painfully boring brief, I rewarded myself with a quick stop by Urban Outfitters on the way home. What I really needed was a hug, but Ryan was at work, so this cozy flannel shirt was the next best thing I could get.

Skippy Says: Word To The Wise (OOTD)

Well, my first day nannying has come and gone, and I'm happy to report that I did not kill the baby. The lesson here is clear kids: keep your expectations low, and you won't be disappointed.

Some other valuable lessons I learned:
1. The baby is so freaking cute that you will want to squeeze her. Hard. That's probably not a good idea.
2. My biceps do not produce milk no matter how much the baby tries to suckle on them. This makes me feel strangely inadequate.
3. While wearing brown is not a bad idea, you may want to match your top more to the color of the baby's spit up. Just take my word for it.

After my less than fashionable work outfit, I was itching to get back into clothes that had more color and less bodily function stains. Who's to say you can't dress up for a night in?

Skippy Says: Gifted (OOTD)

I have a very special gift, a talent of epic proportions. I can take any situation, big or small, and find a way to stress out about it. It doesn't matter how fun the situation actually is, I WILL find a way to worry. Family coming over for dinner? I'm scared they won't like what I cooked. A barbecue with friends? I'm stressed about the dynamics of how different friend groups will get along. Guests visiting from out of town? I'm terrified I won't show them a good enough time. Catch my drift? I truly feel sorry for my unborn children. Good lord, I'm going to be one annoying nag of a mom. Hopefully I can distract them and deflect with my green jeans and bright tops. If they take after me, they'll be easily distracted by bright and shiny things.

Skippy Says: A Confession (OOTD)

Internet, I've been holding out on you. For over two weeks now, I've been blogging without showing you one of my most prized possessions: the shoes which I've worn nearly every day since the blessed day I got my hands on them. You see, because of the whole wearing them nearly every day thing, the shoes had to go on a little vacation to the nice shoe repairman. And because this happened right around the time I started this little blog project, you have not yet gotten to meet my beauties.

Today, we begin to make up for lost time. Ladies, behold the most versatile, cute, and oh-so-comfortable shoes around:

The good news: I have these back in my possession.

The bad news: Despite the shoe repairman's efforts, my shoes are still pretty beat up. But that won't stop me from wearing them. You'll be seeing these on the blog a lot. A LOT. Don't say I didn't warn you. And since they are no longer available for purchase, you're stuck just being really jealous of mine unless you can score a pair on Ebay or something. And if you can, I can't recommend taking the plunge highly enough.

To celebrate having my shoes back, I decided to bust out the green jeans I bought as a cheaper replacement for the ones I really wanted but can't afford. The verdict? They're really comfy and the color is pretty close to what I wanted. The fit isn't quite as great, but it's still fairly decent and since they were around $100 cheaper I think I'll chalk this up as a win.
