Skippy Says: Travel Uniform (OOTD)

Internet, meet my comfy traveling outfit. Comfy traveling outfit, internet. Since we're making the four hour drive up to Tahoe tonight, I chose big used to be big but now fit just right thanks to the holidays jeans and a cozy sweater. Hey, I work with what I got. And I don't got any more jeans that are big on me. Hopefully we'll do some hiking in Tahoe to help out with that little problem. Though I'll be sure to compensate with extra mugs of hot cocoa to balance it all out.

Skippy Says: Birthday Girl (OOTD)

In many aspects, I am my father's daughter: I really enjoy having my back and head scratched, I yell at people I love when I'm angry and then kiss up to them five minutes later, and I love my birthday. Well, I used to. The older I've gotten, the more I've turned into my mother's daughter in this respect. For some reason, birthdays just haven't been as fun the last few years, and I find myself wishing the day will pass by quickly and quietly. Last year was especially trying-- my dog managed to get into the chocolate pecan caramel bars I made to share with my family, so I spent my birthday day frantically calling vets and calculating his weight/amount of chocolate consumed ratio to see if he needed to get his stomach pumped. See? Good times.

My birthday is tomorrow and I'm hoping for a slightly less eventful day. The plan is to have a quiet dinner at my parent's house with close family and friends, and then head to a little bar that specializes in fancy cocktails and desserts. Plus, it has board games, so we're sure to be in for a fun night. Well, I am. I love board games. But people don't necessarily love playing them with me, because I tend to get just a teeny tiny bit competitive sometimes. But it's not as if I've angrily stormed out of the room just because I lost. Fine. Maybe once a few times. I'm not afraid to pull the birthday card to make my friends play with me if I need to though.

Skippy Says: Give Up Already (OOTD)

Am I a bad person for wanting people to start breaking their New year's resolutions already? That's a rhetorical question. It's just that the gym has been so crowded this week, and the girl in front of me in class almost punched me in the face with her dumbbell as we were doing shoulder raises. Plus, the line for the shower after class was so long that I seriously considered skipping it all together. What? You can't smell photos. And other than that, I have no shame.

Skippy Says: My Weakness (OOTD)

Have you guys ever tried Costco pizza? I swear it's amazing. Don't judge. Yes, it thick and greasy and probably way too cheesy for anyone's good, but man I hold a soft spot in my heart for that pizza. Let's not talk about the soft belly it's giving me, ok? Yesterday, Ryan and I decided to spend part of our day off by going to Target. Because, you know, we're wild like that. And there just happened to be a Costco next door, and it just happened to be right around lunch time, and...I sort of blacked out after that. All I know is that there was a lot of delicious pizza eating involved. Since we were already there, we decided to pick up some paper towels as well. On our way out, the guy at the door raised his eyebrow and asked: "you came in all the way here just for that?" And then I had to hang my head in shame and admit that no, we actually came in for the pizza. And then Ryan said I probably shouldn't admit that to people. And there I go again. Ooops.

Skippy Says: Colorific (OOTD)

I'm not sure how these pre-haircut pictures got away from me, but here's the last shots of me with my long hair. Oh wait, I do know how they got away-- I wasn't sure if I wanted to post them. You see, Ryan wasn't the biggest fan of this outfit. I believe phrases like "color overload" and "box of crayola crayons" came out of his mouth. It's possible that I may have responded by calling him a turd, because, you know, I''m mature like that.

Skippy Says: My Soulmate (OOTD)

This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I don't think Ryan is my soulmate. Clearly, I'm madly in love and absolutely crazy about him. But to me at least, that's different than a soulmate. My soulmate is my BFF, Alisa, who was in my life long before Ryan and I met. During all of high school, we were quite literally inseparable. From about eight in the morning until midnight we were by each other's sides-- talking, eating (a lot), and making up nicknames for boys we thought were cute so we could discuss them without anyone knowing who we were talking about. Our favorite was "Hrusha"- a boy named Andrew that we translated to "Andrusha" and somehow morphed into "Hrusha."

Although we both live in San Francisco, Alisa and I don't get to see each other quite as often as we used to back in the day. Grown-up life and work have gotten in the way, as has our desire to spend time with our respective significant others. We still get together a few times a week though, and this past Sunday was a particularly fun girls day despite the fact that she told me I dressed up like Blossom. And no, she didn't mean it as a compliment, though I took it as one. And yes, she is still my soulmate.

Skippy Says: Fall Back (OOTD)

I don't know about you guys, but this time change is really messing with my head. You'd think after 25 years of life I'd be used to it, but not so much. I associate darkness with sleepytime, which is kind of a problem when it gets dark by 5:00 pm. I can't have sleepytime at 5:00 pm, especially when I can't say no to doing things. That would make for a very unproductive Skippy. But not indulging in my desire for sleepytime makes for a very cranky Skippy. And a cranky Skippy makes the life of those around her, um, unpleasant. Let's just say I'm only smiling in these photos because it's still light out.

Skippy Says: Yes Woman (OOTD)

I really need to learn how to say "no." I think it's because I'm a people pleaser, but I've never been very good at it. Except for with Ryan. Poor guy, I feel more than comfortable saying no to him. And since I have a lot of wannabe nos to get off my chest, he gets far more than his fair share.

Even though I'm only working part-time right now, I feel far busier than when I used to work full time. Because I can't say no, I end up running around doing various things I've agreed to each day. Every week I think the next one will be less busy, but somehow it never is. Ryan keeps encouraging me to take just one day to sit in my PJs and read and watch TV all day (I know, he's a keeper). As nice as that sounds, that would require saying no, and that part doesn't sound so nice. At least my closet is being put to good use since I'm getting out all the time. There's always a silver lining.
