This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I don't think Ryan is my soulmate. Clearly, I'm madly in love and absolutely crazy about him. But to me at least, that's different than a soulmate. My soulmate is my BFF, Alisa, who was in my life long before Ryan and I met. During all of high school, we were quite literally inseparable. From about eight in the morning until midnight we were by each other's sides-- talking, eating (a lot), and making up nicknames for boys we thought were cute so we could discuss them without anyone knowing who we were talking about. Our favorite was "Hrusha"- a boy named Andrew that we translated to "Andrusha" and somehow morphed into "Hrusha."
Although we both live in San Francisco, Alisa and I don't get to see each other quite as often as we used to back in the day. Grown-up life and work have gotten in the way, as has our desire to spend time with our respective significant others. We still get together a few times a week though, and this past Sunday was a particularly fun girls day despite the fact that she told me I dressed up like Blossom. And no, she didn't mean it as a compliment, though I took it as one. And yes, she is still my soulmate.

That's awesome that you found your soulmate!! LOL!! I have mine too. We've been best friends forever as well :)
ReplyDeleteSo today I am not going to obsess over your boots (although I do like them!). Today I am going to obsess over your jacket! It's so girly and pretty! Love it :)
Cheers to soulmates! When you have one, your life will forever be rich :)
ReplyDeleteI love the ruffle detailing on your top, and those boots are awesome. I like things that are pragmatic but also stylish and these fit the bill. And if they're Naturalizer, they're probably super-comfy as well.
Haha Blossom. I loved Blossom!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way :) My best friend has been in my life longer than Kevin and she probably knows me better than him to be honest. We live on opposite sides of the country, and even though we don't talk often, when we do get together it's like no time has passed and I love that about us.
Amazing outfit!
ReplyDeleteLove that dress and the belt too!
Haha Blossom or not, that outfit is cute!

Ha ha! I remember that show Blossom! Love the striped dress and the polka dot socks over the tights. Heather
ReplyDeleteHi ive just recently started my own blog it would really mean alot to me if you would follow me as im trying to get my viewings up www.be-jules.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteAwe, this post makes me miss my BFF :( Hope you girls had a fun day!

I totally agree I don't necessary think that your soul mate is your sig other. I'm sure though Ryan would make an awesome one if he should need to step up hahaha.

I'm loving this dress! The stripes are fantastic. We also used to make up code names for cute boys so that no one would know who we were talking about. Also calling them 'dimples' & 'blue eyes' made them more memorable that 'Dan' or 'Jon'. I think it's fantastic you have such a close friend to get together with on the weekends. Girls nights out are the greatest.
ReplyDeletegreat dress!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ki!! I just got those socks and I love them :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim! I feel the same way about Naturalizer shoes (well, most of them :))
ReplyDeleteWell thank you so much!! I looked for a trench for like 5 years before finally finding this one that I loved, so I'm very happy with it too :) And aren't BFF soulmates the best? I love Ryan, but I'm happy my soulmate is Alisa.
ReplyDeleteThanks! They are super duper comfy, though a bit old and worn down so I've been searching for replacement boots. And yes, Alisa definitely makes me life rich :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! That's why i took it as a compliment :)
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how it was with me and Alisa. Even though we did college on opposite sides of the country, and din't always talk all that often, we have this connection that just can't be broken. I feel so happy and lucky to be living closer to her now.
Thanks Cacy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Annie! I thought so too, so I chose to take it as a compliment :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Heather! I just got these socks and am already kind of obsessed with them :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jules, I'm sorry but I I'm not interested in following blogs just to get someone's (or my own) viewings up. I'm interested in following blogs I connect with and which have interesting content. I wish you the best fo luck with your goal though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hannah! We sure did, I'll be sure to write about it in more detail in another post :)
ReplyDeleteLOL, it's ok, Ryan knows his place and has come to accept it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Loren!! I think it's pretty fantastic myself :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy!!
ReplyDeleteI like your outfit! I think it's perfect for a girl's day out :)

ReplyDeleteSkippy did you get a new camera??? These shots are awesome and uber clear! Enjoy your thanksgiving and I agree, a soul mate need not be your significant other!
ReplyDeleteI utterly adore this trench. Also, I know exactly what you mean as far as best friends as soul mates. :3
ReplyDeleteThanks Bessie! I actually did not, but my parents said they're buying me a new one for Chanukah :) Any recommendations?
ReplyDeleteThanks Tia! I searched for the perfect trench for years, and was so glad to finally find this one!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for similar boots this winter, looove these! The detail on your trench is really pretty too.
ReplyDeleteMy sister keeps telling me I look like Blossom. Especially if you take my nose into account apart from obnoxious clothes. :D
Thanks Madeline!! They're pretty old, but I linked to similar ones at the bottom of the post. I feel like Naturalizer outlet pretty much always has a variation of these and they're cheap and comfy :)
ReplyDeleteExactly what I need - cheap and comfy! But somewhere closer to Hungary. Preferably in Hungary. Preferably in Budapest. :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story. I love my girlfriends but I moved around so much as a child that I don't really have the one for life. But along the way I've gathered a few and love them with all my heart and soul.
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty. Love the stripes and the tights and boots.
xo
Lol, ok, fair enough. Naturalizer does have an online store, but I;m not sure if they ship to Hungary...Oh, and I love Budapest!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad! I'm always dead pleased when I hear that Budapest makes a good impression on people. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tracy! That's tough- I know a lot of my girlfriends are spread all over the country and I miss them so much. I feel so lucky to have Alisa here now.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, LOVED it!
ReplyDeleteLiving in the same city as your BFF is so awesome, I don't see mine as much I want to but when we're together its just the best! I love your outfit and I don't think its Blossom-esque at all. The polka dot socks and scarf add so much whimsy to your look. So cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cara!! It really is awesome to finally live int he same city as her- we were cross country for like 6 years!
ReplyDeleteFabulous outfit, my dear! And speaking of fabulous, your hair is absolutely gorgeous! Glad you dropped by my blog so I could find yours, I'm always in need of outfit inspiration! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! I love all the colors playing with the stripes. And your hair is to die for...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the tights with the socks! Such a fun and cute look!
ReplyDeleteI love the polka dots peeking out from the boots. Adorable Skippy!!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you so much Aubrey!!
ReplyDeleteWell thank you very very much!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Justine! I've been envying it on other bloggers, so I finally went out and did it myself :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sayaka!!
ReplyDeleteLOL@ Blossom!! I think you look Marvelous! Love the stripes, the ruffles, and the blue! Happy Thanksgiving Inna! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Samantha!! Happy Thanksgiving to you too!!
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of boyfriend/significant other = soulmate is a Western idea. My Mr. is from elsewhere, and it seems that his culture emphasizes friendships and family relationships over romantic connections.
ReplyDeleteLoving the stripes and blue scarf. :)
Thanks Carrie! Yeah, that makes sense that it would be totally cultural. And this is not to say that I emphasize my friendship with Alisa over my relationship with Ryan, jsut that she is my soulmate in a way he is not. But my relationship with him has many things that my relationship with Alisa lacks, so it goes both ways.
ReplyDeletelovely outfit, I like the trench coat, very chic. You did a nice job with the layering of this outfit, the colors and patterns are fabulous. I like the red and blue accents. Your hair color is gorgeous too!
