Be honest-- have you guys secretly been thinking I consumed a few too many desserts over the holidays? While that's undoubtedly true, it's just part of the reason I've been looking rather, um, portly lately. Here's the other and (hopefully) primary cause:
Oh yeah. You remember that biological clock I talked about? It's very happy. As am I.
Here's the thing-- keeping secrets is not exactly my forté. Ok, that's not really true. Keeping other people's secrets is actually something I'm really good at. It's my own secrets that I can never keep to myself. So you have to understand how ridiculously difficult it has been for me not to share this news with you guys. So difficult, in fact, that I went around telling a bunch of people who I knew I'd never see again, so it didn't matter if they knew because if something went wrong, I'd never have to tell them. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. I walked into a GNC store and loudly asked the person working at the counter if fish oil was safe to take while I was pregnant, which I clearly knew it was, just so I could get the words "I'm pregnant" out of my system.
I'm 12 weeks and 5 days along today, and my baby is somewhere between the size of a large plum and a peach (I'll be a full peach when I reach 13 weeks this Thursday!). Hopefully that explains a little somethin' about this:
Ok, fine, that's bigger than even the largest plum or peach, but there's also a bunch more blood and fluid and stuff in there. Plus my uterus is moving up into my belly and expanding in size. Oh, and this was taken late at night so there's a full day's worth of food and bloat in there. Listen, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
To anyone that's reading this and trying to get pregnant themselves, I have this to say: I had no idea how difficult this process could be for so many people until I started doing a little research after Ryan and I decided to start trying ourselves. Unlike what we are taught to believe in sex ed, most of us don't get pregnant the first time we have unprotected sex. I certainly didn't. Have faith and keep trying-- it will happen. As my mama told me when I got frustrated, "you're just waiting for your baby, it will come." I can't tell you how grateful I am that it did.

Skippy Says: It's Morning Time (OOTD)
I am not a morning person. Consider that an extraordinarily generous understatement. When I was in high school, it was not unusual for my papa to have to resort to dumping a cup of cold water on me so that I'd get up in time to make first period. And my mama swears that the only time she's seen me wake up with a smile is when she and my brother waved a freshly peeled clementine under my nose. I may hate mornings, but I love citrus.
Not much has changed these days. Ryan routinely does a "morning-time" song and dance to try to put a smile on my face while I angrily grumble at him to stop. On particularly cranky mornings, I resort to growling and biting. What? I told you to consider it an extraordinarily generous understatement. Unfortunately for me, I've got an 8:00 a.m. doctor's appointment about an hour and a half away tomorrow morning. So if you hear that loud roar come 6:00 a.m., don't be surprised. It's just me welcoming the morning.

Let's finish up remix week with something bright and fun, shall we? As you guys know, I'm not afraid of a little color (although somesilly people argue that sometimes I should have a little more fear to avoid looking like a box of crayons). But bright yellow, orange, red, and cobalt blue isn't too much, is it? I didn't think so.

See part 1 here, part 2 here, and part 3 here!
Are you guys getting sick of seeing this jacket yet? I mean, I warned you I'd be remixing the blouse, but it seems that the jacket has also somehow made its way into my outfits nearly every day. It's just that I was on the hunt for a jacket like this for so long that now that I've finally got one, I can't seem to stop my hands from reaching for it. I tried to use my left one to slap the right one away as it went for the hanger with this jacket on it yet again, but then I just looked silly in a room alone with my hands battling each other, so I gave in.

- Zara belt (Buy on major sale here)
- Thrifted (from Crossroads) jacket (Buy similar here, here, or here)

Skippy Says: This Is The Remix Edition: Part 3 (OOTD)
See part 1 here and part 2 here!
I know red and yellow is a big no-no because of that whole Ronald McDonald thing, but I figured since I also have the big, red, curly hair I might as well truly embrace it and go all out. Amiright? I always wanted to be a superhero, and since I'm a wimp that's never going to happen, so this is probably as close as I'm ever going to get. Clowns count as superheros, right?

Skippy Says: This Is The Remix Edition: Part 2 (OOTD)
See part 1 here!
Today, pretty yellow blouse meets slightly-too-tight-man-I-really-should-not-have-skipped-the-gym-today white jeans. Ryan has proclaimed this to be his favorite outfit I've ever worn on the blog. Notice it's also probably the mostboring simple. Which is why I've learned not to take offense when he turns his nose up at 90% of what I wear. My style is clearly just way too cool for him to comprehend.

Skippy Says: This Is The Remix Edition: Part I (OOTD)
Don't worry, I know what you're thinking, and I got a much cleaner remix edition for you guys than the title of this post implies. It involves pretty Anthropologie blouses and absolutely no urine whatsoever. For those who are disappointed by that, just stay tuned for next week. I kid. I think.
I got many beautiful presents for my birthday, and among them was a lovely yellow Anthropologie blouse from my auntie. I immediately fell in love with the subtle feminine detailing on the blouse, and started dreaming up various outfits I could make with it. Since I couldn't settle on just one, the idea of the remix week was born. Every day this week, I'll feature a different outfit centered around the same blouse. I may be smelly by the end of it, but gosh darn it I'm committed.

Skippy Says: A Few = Two (OOTD + review)
So you know how I said I managed to get dressed a few times in the five days we were up in Tahoe? Two counts as a few, right? The bare minimum, sure, but it still fits the definition. Hey, I didn't get that Linguistics degree for nothing.
I almost didn't photograph this look because I washed my hair too late in the day and the light started fading while it was still really wet. But then I remembered that I brought along the HANA Air hair dryer that Misikko sent me to test out (they actually sell a whole line of blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons). So, basically, they saved the day. If saving the day means you getting to see my outfit. Which clearly it does.
The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the ridiculously cute packaging and numerous goodies included along with the dryer. Look, I'm a sucker for things like that. A sucker I tell ya.
Icing on the cake? The hair dryer comes with a 2 year warranty. Which is really good because I tend to break shit. A lot.

Ok, how cute is this? A monkey holding a hair brush. Ryder tried to claim the monkey as his new stuffed toy to chew up but I fought him off |
And more goodies...A hair towel and eyelash curler |

Skippy Says: Honey, I'm Home (OOTD)
Well, our little mini vacation is over and, as of yesterday, I'm back to the daily grind. Of course when my daily grind is being a nanny which involves playing with a cute little baby all day, it's much more fun and pleasant than grind-y.
Thank you all for your understanding about my little brain fart. Many of you left very sweet comments, saying that you couldn't wait to see my outfits when I got back. Only one little problem with that. Since we spent our days hiking, reading, and watching T.V., my outfits pretty much consisted of sweatpants and pajamas. And as enticing as I know that sounds, I didn't snap too many photos. I did put on some respectable looking clothes a few times though, since even our pup started looking embarrassed to be seen with me.
