Skippy Says: Stop The Presses (OOTD)

Internet, I have an announcement. I've decided to go vegetarian. I didn't think it'd be such a big deal, but apparently I was wrong. My family is, um, less than pleased. I believe somebody said something about my future baby dying if I "continued this with craziness." The only slight problem with that argument is that I'm not pregnant. Or breastfeeding. Or, you know, a mother. Someone else very seriously warned me that I "won't be fun anymore." That may be, but hopefully my bright pink shoes will fool people into thinking otherwise. Because everyone knows only fun people wear pink shoes.

  3. 1) Lovelove that dress. Adorable.

    2) I am a vegetarian too! Best decision I ever made. Seriously. (Okay, besides marrying my husband and all that stuff.) People STILL get on my case about it and are less than supportive, but don't let them get you down. I promise, you'll love it!

  6. Love the pop of color with your shoes. Gray and pink look great together. The earrings are pretty cool too :)

  7. I love your outfit - the shoes are adorable! My husband is a vegetarian, and we have even gone so far as to eat vegan, no added oil meals at home! I was reluctant to make this switch at first, but now I don't even miss meat (cheese is another story). There are so many amazing vegetarian dishes, and as long as you eat beans, broccoli and spinach, you will get enough protein. Good luck, and let me know if you need any recipes to jump start your vegetarianism :)

  8. We are vegetarian a few times a week and it's not that bad. Sometimes I actually need a meat detox! Love the dress on you!

  9. Thank you so much! I think my family is just really worried about me getting enough protein, etc, but you an totally do that as a vegetarian- just gotta be a lot more conscious of what you eat :)

  10. Thanks on both counts Hannah! I feel pretty great about the decision, it's just the justifying it to everyone part that's been kind of annoying...

  11. Thanks Heather! I love gray and pink together too

  12. Thanks so much Kim! I was playing around with going vegan too, but I think it's a little too much too fast. I decided I'll mainly eat vegan when I cook for myself at home, but if someone is having me over for dinner or I'm going out with friends then, for now, vegetarianism is enough for me. I would love any good vegetarian/vegan recipes you have- thank you!!

  13. The shoes are "fun"! As for your big decision, good luck. There certainly is some very solid medical arguments for it but I like my bacon and chicken too much to do it myself.

  14. Thanks! Yeah, weirdly, I haven't missed meat at all these past two weeks. I miss fish a little, but it's really not too bad

  15. oh YOU are so fun, even without the pink shoes! I wish I could go all out vegetarian, but my husband can't give up meat-- and I would hate to have to cook separate courses for dinner everyday. Also, I can't give up seafood. Other than that, I would be totally good to go! hahaha. good luck!

  16. All the best with your vegetarianism! :D you make for a very good looking one ;) :D

  18. I am a recent vegeterian as well. Being from all Italian family, less than pleased is an under statement. They were FURIOUS! No more meatballs, chicken parm, or anything else that my family lives. If you need any recipes, let me know. I plan on publishing a post next week on how I make my vegeterian "stuffing" so I could join in on Thanksgiving. It's delicious!

  19. Thanks!! I think people can be healthy vegetarian or not, it just didn't feel right for me personally to be eating meat anymore...

  21. Thanks Laura!! Yeah that was the reason I didn't do it for such a long time even though I wanted to- hubby said he wants meat and I hate cooking two different dinners. But in the end I think it's worth it to me. And maybe he'll come around one day too :) He's already said he wants to cut down on the amount of meat he eats, which is huge!

  22. My family is Russian and the reaction has been kind of similar. Oh well, they'll get used it because they have no choice :) I would love for you to share some recipes!!

  23. I'm vegetarian and it's no big deal, esp for ppl like you who know how to cook! Altho traveling as a veg is a nightmare...just getting back from Ireland, one of the least veg friendly places on the planet :)

  24. You look so chic in this outfit. I love everything you´re wearing. While I admire vegetarians, I´m sure I can´t survive living as one. I love fish more than any meat. :)

  25. I know, I was going to ask you and Gregg for some good vegetarian recipes but I figure I've been asking you for enough help as is :) Hope you had a good trip and it wasn't just all work stuff!

  26. One of my very best friends is a vegetarian, and I can assure you that she's still oodles of fun. Her husband always jokes that her vegetarianism will see her giving birth to Damien, but his theory has so far gone untested. I'll let you know if that changes. =P

I could never be a vegetarian, I love meat way too much...but good luck with it!

  28. Love the dress! I support whatever decision you make with your diet (ok, within reason, and vegetarianism is within reason!), and I know your future baby will be just perfect <3

  29. I think husband's are slow to the less-meat thing, but they do come around. The fact that I can throw in 2-3 vegetarian dinners a week now is pretty amazing with my meat and potatoes husband. I'm sure Ryan and Laura's husband are the same!

  30. I keep saying I'm going to get a jean jacket, but I haven't yet. Really need to! I'm not vegetarian, but I cook meatless meals several times a week for health reasons. Even though you're not concerned about pregnancy diet, the actress Natalie Portman is a vegetarian and had a baby recently. I read a few articles about how she decided to stick with it through pregnancy.

  33. I really like this outfit! The dress and jacket make for a very classy look, and the pink (I love this particular shade!) heels just brighten everything up!
Good luck on your vegetarian journey! I think it's a very personal decision, and though I haven't really thought about trying it myself, decreasing considerably the amount of meat I eat is definitely a goal for me.
Thank you for visiting my blog!

  34. Wow!! Your so brave to start a new diet...but do what your heart desires & who cares what other people think right? I don't have the discipline to be a vegan so I admire your choice!! Super cute outfit. The grey and pink go well together!!

  35. I was a veg for about a year back in the high school after taking a class re: how animals were treated and killed for food production. But uh, the "lure" of the fried chicken and greasy gooey cheeseburger was too great for me ... good luck to you!

  40. My BFF went vegetarian some time ago and I gave her a very hard time (because it was fun for me :) But ultimately that's what you want then you should do it. You'll likely be healthier and certainly wealthier (because meat is $$$). Spend the extra on some more snazzy shoes.

P.S - this dress was made for you ;)

  41. You look awesome in those pink shoes! Yeah, as long as you are being healthy, do it.

  42. Goodness, that all sounds very dire! Honestly, I experienced much the same thing when I became a vegetarian in June 2009. It was as if somehow I was making a value judgement on everyone around me, and they were all resentful. Many people made loud pronouncements and some (my mom) even tried to convince me that it was fine to eat meat that I hadn't cooked myself. But it improves with time, I promise, and becoming a vegetarian was honestly the best decision I ever made. A whole new world of wonderful foods opened up. Good luck with your journey, and don't let anyone tell you what's right for you except you :)

  43. I've been a vegetarian for 21 years and I'm a freak'n laugh riot! Or at least I THINK I am. My husband is vegan. I still eat a little dairy. Not much anymore because I'm lactose intolerant. Wow, I'm boring. Dammit. Maybe they're right!!

  44. Hey darling! Your outfit is gorgeous. I love this dress on you--it's so flattering! Love the shape. I love how it brings in your waist. Perfectly girly! Love the pink shoes too! Oh my goodness, as long as you go see someone about what you are eating to make sure you're getting all your necessary vit/min/etc... you should be fine.
Also, your comments leave me grinning ear to ear. Thank you so much for being so supportive and wonderful (and incredibly stylish!!)

  45. Inna, I love this dress! I love the style and the pleats, it looks beautiful on you! I think if you want to be a vegetarian there is nothing wrong with that. You can get protein through lots of other sources, you don't have to have animal products so I think you are fine :) Are you going through with this now or after turkey day???

  46. Thanks so much! I think I'll be ok with the meat, but I gotta admit I miss the fish.

  66. I've been vegetarian for 11 years and my family still gives me a hard time about it. Just wait until you start getting, "There's meat in that," every time you go to eat something....even if it's ice cream. My sister still threatens to make bacon ice cream. They'll all bite their tongues when you trick them into eating some delicious vegetarian (or even vegan) treats. My family has no idea how much egg replacer, soy milk and tofu they have eaten over the years.
